Find and check an energy certificate

The official registers let you find a lodged certificate and check its details. Use the service for the nation where the property is located.

England, Wales and Northern Ireland

Find an energy certificate

Use the GOV.UK service to find an Energy Performance Certificate, Display Energy Certificate or air-conditioning inspection report. Search using the details requested by the service, such as the property address or certificate reference.

Scotland

Open the Scottish EPC Register

Scotland has a separate register and regulatory framework. Use the Scottish service for Scottish properties and check current guidance for the type of assessment required.

What to check

  • The property address and certificate reference match the building or unit concerned.
  • The assessment and expiry dates are appropriate for your purpose.
  • The assessor and accreditation-scheme details match the work commissioned.
  • The certificate type is the one you need: an EPC and a DEC have different functions.

For a new assessment, check the assessor’s current accreditation as well.

If you cannot find a certificate

Ask the assessor for the report reference and confirmation of lodgement. A draft calculation or design-stage report is not the same as a lodged EPC. If the certificate appears inaccurate, contact the assessor and, if unresolved, the scheme through which it was lodged.

For certificates lodged through Kaizen, follow our complaints procedure. Please do not send an individual certificate dispute to MHCLG or the Register Operator for adjudication.
